Quick knock on Dupont Fire
 

12.18.2016 - Shortly before 5 am, Rescue and Chief 112 were dispatched to assist station 125 (Dupont) and the rest of the 1st alarm companies on a reported structure fire on Liberty St. Initial reports from the caller was that a space heater was on fire, but the fire was out. The fire restarted shortly after with police first arriving reporting a working structure fire with heavy fire in the front of the home. The crew from R-112 stretched a hand line to the D side stairwell and into the fire after forcing the door. Half the crew handled the hose line while the remaining members did a primary search for victims. Later in the fire, 3 members from the R-112 crew assisted with overhaul.

Units were on scene nearly 2 1/2 hours. Our thoughts are with the family who lost much of their possessions in this morning's fire, including several pets.

11.12.2016 - The Engine & Rescue responded to Loomis Ave, Taylor for a working residential fire in a two and half story home. First due compannies arrived to find fire showing from the 2nd floor C/D corner. Units from Taylor, Old Forge, Greenwood and Avoca responded. 112 units returned to service after 45 minutes.

Working fire in the City
 

10.15.2016 - Just after 5:30am, the Rescue & Chief responded with Pittston City & Jenkins Twp FDs to Panama St in the city for a working residential fire. Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy fire conditions throughout, with the Bravo exposure starting to burn. Crews also encountered live wires down.

The Rescue crew assisted with controlling utilities, before manning handlines on both the exposure building, as well as the original fire building. Crews operated for close to six hours before returning to service.

Tractor Trailer Roll Over
 

9.1.2016 - The Rescue responded, along w Dupont FD, Avoca EMS & Medic 29 to the onramp of the Pa Turnpike for a tractor trailer roll over Thursday evening. Crews arrived to find the driver self extricated, not complaining of any injury. Crews reviewed the trucks contents to ensure no hazard materials were involved, and confirmed that neither of the truck's saddle tanks were compromised.

The Rescue returned to service after approximately 15 minutes on scene.

Accident with Injury
 

8.18.2016 - The Rescue responded, along w Dupont FD, Avoca EMS & Medic 29 to Wilson & Chestnut Sts in Dupont for an accident with injuries and airbags deployed. Upon arrival, the Rescue crew stabilized the SUV so that EMS could complete their evaluation, while hazards and traffic control were handled. Crews operated approximately 20 minutes before returning to service.

Fire in Abandoned Building
 

8.16.2016 - The Rescue, Engine & Chief all responded Tuesday night into Duryea for the working commercial structure fire. Upon their arrival, the Duryea companies reported a well involved, abandoned office building on the property of a former coal company. Due to the remote location, Command requested several tanker trucks from area departments to assist in hauling water into the scene.

After manning some handlines, the 112 crews were released after more than an hour of work.

Morning Fire in the City
 

8.5.2016 - Rescue 112 responded Friday morning to assist Pittston City & Jenkins Twp FDs with a residential fire on James St in the City. Upon arrival of the City engines, fire was showing from the second floor.

Initial crews made quick work of the fire, limiting damage to the bedroom and portions of the home's exterior.

Assist Pittston Twp w MVA
 

8.4.2016 - Engine 112 responded to assist Pittston Twp FD with a motor vehicle accident on Armstrong Rd. First due units found an SUV vs tractor trailer with fire consuming the cab of the truck. As EMS tended to the injured, suppression efforts were begun. Engine 112 arrived and initally was tasked with placing absorbant pads down to slow the spread of leaking diesel fuel. Upon completion, the crew was re-assigned to manage an attack line in the rear of the trailer. Crews operated for close to 40 minutes before returning to service.

6.22.2016 - Shortly after 8pm, a full first alarm was transmitted for a structure fire in the 600 block of Main St. EMS 512 arrived quickly, reporting no visible fire, but smoke coming from the attic space of a two story, multiple unit dwelling.

The Engine & Rescue arrived, stretching a dry line to the 2nd floor where a smoke condition was encountered. Crews forced entry into three apartments, searching for the fire's location. In a short time, crews found a burning towel on the floor of one of the apartments. There was no fire extension, so crews began working to ventilate the building. All units were cleared after 45 minutes.

Duryea Home Destroyed by Flames
 

5.28.2016 - Another midday run send the Rescue & Engine into Duryea for a working dwelling fire on New St. As crews were responding, 911 conveyed that there was possible entrapment on scene.

The Rescue arrived to find heavy fire showing from the address side, with the Duryea Ladder already at work. The Rescue laddered the rear of the home, completed a search from the exterior of a 2nd floor room and forced entry into the basement. The fire was then transitioned to being a defensive operation. Crews operated for more than 2 hours in high heat and humidity. The home suffered extensive damage.

5.23.2016 - Shortly after 11am, a first alarm assignment was sent to Sunset Dr in Pittston Twp for a working vehicle fire inside an attached garage. As Pittston Twp FD was responding, smoke was visible from Oak St, confirming the working fire.

Rescue 112 arrived and was tasked with a primary search of the 2nd floor. 112 crews found no extension and reported the primary search to be negative. Crews also found two kittens during the search and secured them in a rear bedroom. Once the main body of fire was knocked down, and the vehicle pulled from the garage, 112 assisted in overhauling the car before returning to service.

5.17.2016 - First alarm companies were dispatch to a working kitchen fire on Lackawanna Ave in Duryea Tuesday afternoon. Engine 126 and 143 got a quick knock down on the fire while Rescue 112 did the truck work. The balance of the first and second alarm companies did over haul and relieved the first alarm companies. 

Unfortunately the Red Cross had to be called in for the displaced family.

5.15.2016 - For the second consecutive day, crews headed to Interstate 81 for an accident with injuries. Avoca EMS was first arriving, reporting a two car accident with a SUV head on into the sound barrier with severe damage. Upon arrival, crews found several patients lying in the median, being attended to by EMS personnel. Additional BLS & ALS units were then requested by command.

The force of the impact sheared the ignition off the steering column of the SUV, leaving the vehicle running. Crews from Dupont FD forced entry into the engine compartment to cut the battery cables to disable the engine. Crews from the Rescue assisted EMS and began hazard control.

5.12.2016 - The Rescue, along with Durya FD responded to Coxton Rd for a dump truck rolled over. Upon PD arrival, it was confirmed that the driver was self extricated and the incident was just over the county line, being in Lackawanna County.

The Luzerne county units continued into the scene until the Lackawanna companies could arrive. Crews handled the leaking diesel fuel along with the other hazards before returning to service.

Old Forge Garage Fire
 

4.19.2016 - The Engine, Rescue & Chief all responded into Old Forge Tuesday afternoon for a working garage fire. Old Forge Asst Chief Stull was first arrving, reporting a fully involved garage with 3 immediate exposures in danger. The 2nd alarm was then requested.

As the Engine was arriving, Command assigned the crew to make entry into a "D" side exposure and check for extension. 112 crews found Ladder 93 already working in the exposure and assisted in checking for extension. Once that task was completed, the crew was re-assigned to begin overhaul of another exposure building.

Crews operated for close to 90 minutes before returning to service.

3.15.2016 - Shortly after lunchtime Tuesday, the Rescue & Chief responded to Chestnut St & Penn Ave in Dupont for a two vehicle crash. Chief 166A was on scene, reporting a vehicle into a pole with occupants still inside.

Upon arrival, Rescue found Dupont FD and EMS already at work, with occupants still in both vehicles. One vehicle was rolled over onto its passenger side. The Rescue crew went to work stabilizing both vehicles before removing the windshield of the rolled over vehicle. Patient care was then transferred to EMS. Crews them used hydraulic spreaders to hyper-extend the door on the second vehicle, so that EMS could package and remove the second patient.

2.19.2016 - The Engine & Chief were called upon to assist Pittston Twp with a gasoline tanker partially over an embankment at the Sunoco station on Rt 315 Friday night. The truck, loaded with 5,000 of gasoline backed over the embankment until the trailer's undercarriage got hung up. As a precaution, the Knights Inn was evacuated for a short time until the gasoline could be off loaded.

Pittston City FD and Luzerne County EMA also assisted at the scene.

2.13.2016 - Station 112 cleared the house Saturday morning for a structure fire on New St, Duryea. A few moments after dispatch, Lt 126 arrived, reporting smoke showing from all windows. Chief 126 arrived next, finding a well involved basement fire. Engine 126 stretched attack 1 to the basement, while the Duryea Ladder & 112 Rescue went to work on laddering, searches and ventilation. Engine 166 stretched attack 2 to the first floor to handle any extension.

Crews operated for two hours in frigid temperatures before being released by command.

1.28.2016 - The Rescue headed to Franklin St, West Pittston along with West Pittston and Exeter FDs for a working dwelling fire Thursday night. The West Pittston Ladder arrived to find heavy fire showing from the exterior with extension into a parked van. 

As initial attacks were getting underway, a 2nd alarm was transmitted by command. Rescue 112 went to work throwing ladders, completing horizontal ventilation before manning a few attack lines in the upper floor to help extinguish the blaze.

Tractor Trailer Fire
 

1.23.2016 - As the area experienced its first significant snowfall of the year, crews were called out to battle a tractor trailer fire at the Petro Truck stop in Dupont.

Dupont engine was first arriving and made a quick hit on the fully involved cab. Upon arrival of 112, the Engine gave its tank water while the Rescue crew ladder the trailer and cut the roof to expose the fire that extended into the trailer. Crews then used the piercing nozzle to extinguish the fire in the front of the trailer. Crews also forced the rear trailer doors open as well as the exposure trailer that aslo suffered significant damage. The truck was full of cased root beer.

Rescue, Engine & Chief 112 were all on the response.
