Knox Box Program
The KNOX-BOX Rapid Entry system is specifically developed for the fire department. By using one master key, the fire department can gain access to commercial and residential properties. More than 11,500 departments nationwide use the Knox system, including Station 112.
The knox system allows property owners to manage and store keys, access cards, and floor plans in high-security lock boxes mounted near their building entrances. The lock box is keyed specifically to our departments master key. With the Knox System, the fire department does not have to wait for a property owner to unlock a door in the middle of the night, and no forcing the door oepn to gain entry. The Knox Rapid Entry System reduces property damage, access time and liability for lost keys.
Station 112 encourages the use of the Knox Rapid Entry System for properties protected by automatic fire detection systems. Additionally, the Knox System can be used by residences where medical emergencies frequently occur, allowing EMS workers to quickly gain access and begin patient care.
Station 112 recently upgraded our master key retention hardware. We are now using a retention system that requires the user to input a unique six digit PIN to release the master key. Each release of the key is logged in an audit trail that will be continuously monitored by department leadership.
