Early Morning Fire in Moosic
12.13.2014 - The Engine, Rescue & Chief all responded to assist Greendwood FD with a working house fire on Catherine St in Moosic. Crews arrived to find heavy fire shownig from the first floor windows and reports of all occupants out of the home.
The Engine crew stretched attack 2 to the 2nd floor. Crews made quick work of the fire before working to access the attic space where additional fire was found. The Rescue crew relieved the engine guys and started some of the extensive overhaul.
No injuries were reported and crews operated for close to 3 hours before returning to service.

Rescue works fatal accident
11.19.2014 - Rescue 112 along w Avoca EMS, Medic 303 and Dupont FD were dispatched to Rt 315 in the area of the Petro Truck Stop for a vehicle into a tree with injuries. As units were responding, 911 advised that the patient might have been ejected and was positioned under the vehicle.
The lone occupant succumbed to his injuries. The incident was then turned over to the Avoca PD, PSP and Luzerne County Coroner's office. Units remained on scene for approximately 90 minutes.

Garage Fire on Suscon Rd.
11.10.2014 - First alarm companies were dispatched just before 2am for a reported building fire on Suscon Rd, Pittston Twp. Crews arrived to find a commerical garage with flames and smoke showing from the rear of the building. The garage housed two fuel oil delivery trucks.
Pittston Twp Engine laid the supply line, with the 112 crews placed two attack lines into service. Crews quickly knocked down the main body of fire as the remainder of the first alarm companies arrived.
The 112 crews then worked alongside Duryea Ladder & Engine in overhauling the garage's interior. Fire damage was limited to the rear of the builing. No injuries were reported.

Vehicle Fire on Montage Mtn
10.31.2014 - Engine 112 responded to assist Station 98 with a vehicle fire on Glenmaura Nat'l Blvd this morning. Initially dispatched as a vehicle fire, 911 then received a pull station alarm from the building. The assignment was then upgraded to include a full structure box, bringing Engine 112.
Chief 93 (Old Forge) and Engine 98 (Greenwood) arrived to find a working fire in the engine compartment. E98 stretched the attack line and began suppression while Engine 112 and Rescue 95 (Taylor) assisted with forcible entry.

Moosic Business Hit by Fire
10.20.2014 - Station 112 cleared the house, sending the Engine, Rescue & Chief to assist the Greenwood FD with a commercial structure fire on Corey St. Moosic crews arrived to find a working fire on the production line. The Engine company stretched a setback line while the Old Forge Engine established water supply.
Chief 112 worked at the Command Post while the Engine & Rescue crews were sent to relieve the first due Engine Company.

Flames Destroy West Pittston Home
10.12.2014 - The Rescue & Chief both headed into West Pittston Sunday night for a working house fire. West Pittston crews arrived to find a large volume of fire showing and requested a 2nd alarm be transmitted.
The 112 crews were assigned the exposure building upon their arrival. Crews operated for close to 3 hours before returning to service.

2 Alarm Fire hits West Pittston Home
10.06.2014 - The Rescue & Engine were dispatched along with West Pittston FD to Spring St in West Pittston for a working structure fire. The home was located next to the West Pittston station, which resulted in a quick response and a quickly transmitted 2nd alarm.
With heavy fire showing from the 3rd floor, Rescue 112 was assigned attack 2, which was stretched to the attic of the exposure side. Crews encountered smoke throughout with some running fire in the attic space along with high heat. Crews quickly doused the running fire while completing ventilation and the primary search of the home.
During the incident, a structure box was transmitted for Duryea Borough. Engine 112 was released by command and responded to that incident. The Duryea incident was negative for fire and the Engine returned to the West Pittston scene to assist.

Vehicle Rollover w Confinement
10.02.2014 - The Rescue along with Dupont FD and Avoca EMS responded to I81 Northbound, just before the Avoca Exit for a vehicle rolled over into the median of the construction zone. EMS arrived to find a single car on its roof wth the lone occupant confined in the vehicle.
Upon arrival, the Rescue crew initiated stabilization while the Dupont FD placed a protective handline into service. Once stablization was complete, crews cut several components of the car before using the hydraulic spreaders to forcibly open the passenger door. With the door opened, care was transferred to EMS who packaged the patient and transported to a local ER.

School Bus Accident
9.26.2014 - Rescue 112 responded along with EMS to Wiliam St in the borough for a head on collision involving a car and school bus. Crews arrived to find all occupants out of both vehicles. The Rescue crew assessed hazards and began triaging of patients until the arrival of EMS. The car had one occupant, while the bus had 13 students on board.
In all, two adults and four students would be transported to local hospitals. The remaining students were released to parents or provided transportation by the School District.

York Ave. Structure Fire
9.21.2014 - A first alarm structure box was transmitted late this afternoon for a reported porch fire on York Ave in the borough. Duryea Asst Chief was first arriving and reported a smoke condition from the rear of the residence. Duryea Ladder was next arriving along with the 112 Engine & Chief.
Engine 112 made its hydrant connection and stretched attack 1 to the rear of the home. Crews found a small fire burning inside the enclosed porch and the homeowner using a garden hose trying to contain the blaze. Crews were able to knock the fire down quickly with the truck company starting overhaul.
Crews operated for nearly an hour. The fire is believed to be accidental in nature.

Assist Pittston Twp FD w Tire Fire
9.13.2014 - Late Saturday morning, Engine 112 was dispatched to assist Pittston Twp. FD with a large tire fire located near TJ Maxx in the township.
Upon arrival, Engine 112 would assist with water supply operations while the crew assisted Pittston Twp members will supression efforts.
Car into Building
9.13.2014 - Late Friday night, Rescue & Chief responded to assist West Pittston with a reported gas leak inside a building. Upon arrival, crews noted a strong gas type order and forced entry into the building's basement. The search found no gas leak, but evidence of a possible building fire. The State Police Fire Marshall has been notified. A short bit after returning, the Rescue & Chief then responded to Main St in Dupont for a vehicle into a building. Units arrived to find the vehicle's driver already in police custody. Units stayed on scene to provide lighting and support until the vehicle could be removed.

Fire at Petro Truck Stop
8.8.2014 - The Engine, Rescue & Chief all responded for an early morning run to the Petro Truck Stop on a reported structure fire. Chief Hudzinski (Dupont) arrived and confirmed a smoke condition in the travel store. Engine 112 staged at the hydrant with the crew heading to the second division to check for fire.
Crews searched for a length of time before finding fire burning in the wall above the ceiling blocks near the entrance way. Crews ventilated smoke and overhauled the area to remove smoldering insulation and complete extinguishment. Units operated nearly 2 hours before cleaing the scene.

Highway Accident Creates a Mess
7.28.2014 - The Rescue, Chief & Fire Police were sent to Interstate 81 Southbound just before Exit 178 (Avoca) for an accident with reported injuries. As units were entering the highway in Moosic, they spotted the accident on the bridge in Moosic, just over Rt 11.
R112 arrived first to find a panel van towing a travel trailer that jack-knifed across both lanes. Crews found a family of five (plus two pets) out of the vehicle and complaining of minor injuries. Crews initiated patient care until EMS units could arrive on location.
The trailer was destroyed, spilling much of the family's belongings across the highway. Units from Greenwood FD would be called to assist since the incident was located within their jurisdiction. (Photo courtesy Greenwood FD)

Storms Keep Crews Busy
7.8.2014 - As severe weather slammed the area Tuesday evening, the tones started dropping almost immediately.
The first response was for an activated fire alarm on Clarks Rd in Duryea. The Rescue & Chief responded, while the Engine remained staffed in quarters. As crews cleared that response, a residential structure fire was dispatched for the 100 block of Main St, Avoca. 911 was reporting a house hit by lighting. The Rescue was first arriving, finding no smoke showing from the residence. As crews investigated, they found a large tree fell onto the rear of the home, damaging both the roof and rear wall. Crews spent more than an hour clearing the tree and getting a tarp placed over the damaged roof to prevent further water damage for the homeowner.
As crews went available from the Main St incident, 911 advised of a large tree down on a vehicle at the corner of Spring & Hawthorns Sts. Crews were advised that the tree was also blocking the roadway. Once on scene, crews began cutting up the tree before using the winch on Rescue 112 to pull the tree off the vehicle and then remove it from the roadway. Crews worked for approximately 45 minutes before clearning this incident.
As members returned to the station and began servicing saws and cleaning equipment, the tones would drop again, sending the Rescue, Engine & Chief to York Ave to assist Avoca PD and EMS in searching for a female lost in the woods behind Litzy's bar. Crews setup lighting and searched the area before locating the female who was turned over to EMS and PD for further evaluation.

Firebug Burns House Twice in 2 Hours
7.6.2014 - Shortly after clearing a run in Old Forge, the AFD was sent out to assist West Pittston with a reported structure fire on Foundry St. As crews were responding, 911 provided additional info that the fire on the porch might be out, but a heavy smoke condition within the building existed. West Pittston crews arrived to find a fire burning in a front room and at the top of a stairwell. 112 units assisted with opening walls, ventilation and water supply while Chief 112 handled accountability.
About an hour after clearing the scene, untis were again dispatched back to the same address by request of P.D. for a well involved fire. This time, crews arrived to find fire showing from all windows and threatening the "D" side exposure. Engine 112 laid out 900' of supply line as secondary water source while the Rescue crew assisted in stretching lines and assisting in suppression efforts. Due to the volume of fire and the exposure problem, Chief Hood quickly called for a second alarm assignment.
112 crews operated for more than three hours before returning to service. The Chief, Engine, Rescue and Fire Police all responded to both incidents. The fires would be declared arson by West Pittston fire and police.

Busy Day includes an Assist to Greenwood FD
6.26.2014 - After running an AFA and an accident, the Rescue responded to assist Rescue 98 (Greenwood) on Interstate 81 at the county line. Crews arrived to find Rescue 98 at work with a single vehicle well off the roadway and in the woods. 98 crews used chainsaws to remove some trees before crews took to using extrication equipment to free the driver who was confined in the vehicle.
Shortly after the clearing the accident, the Engine & Rescue responded with Duryea FD to Main St in Avoca for a vehicle fire. Crews arrived to find the fire extinguished by the homeowner. Crews checked for extension before returning to service. In all, 112 units marked 4 runs for the day.

112 Takes In a Duryea Job
5.6.2014 - While returning from a structure box assignment in Pittston City, Rescue 112 was dispatched on a first alarm assignment for a working structure fire in the 5th ward of Duryea. Rescue & Chief 112 marked on scene within two minutes of dispatch to find a two 1/2 story, two family dwelling with smoke pushing from the attic space.
After confirming accountability of occupants, the Rescue crew forced into the "D" side of the home and found a fire in a second floor bedroom. Crews quickly contained the fire and began ventilation while checking the attic for extension.
Engine 112 stretched attack one to complete extinguishment while Engine 126 (Germania) handled water supply. Ladder 226 (Excelsior) completed the necessary overhaul of the fire room.

5.5.2014 - Shortly before 3PM, the Rescue was dispatched to assist Pittston Twp. FD with a residential structure fire on Tedrick St. Pittston Twp. Chief B was first arriving and confirmed the working fire.
Rescue 112 was initially tasked with ventilation before being tasked with stretching another attack line to assist in suppression efforts.
As crews were wrapping up, another Pittston Twp box was transmitted for a possible structure fire on Parnell St. Command sent Rescue 112 along with crews from Pittston City and Duryea Ladder to that second box alarm. Crews returned to service after about 2 hours.

Glendale Structure Fire
Engines 112 & 166
4.22.2014 - The Engine, Rescue & Chief all responded to Glendale Rd in Pittston Twp Tuesday afternoon for a reported residential structure fire. As units were responding, 911 provided an update that a DCNR unit was onscene confirming a working fire. Engine 112 arrived first to find Chief Hughes (226) on scene reporting fire in the rear portion of the mobile home.
Engine 112 placed Attack 1 into service while Engine 166 grabbed a hydrant and established water supply. The fire would quickly be contained to the room of origin although the home suffered extensive smoke and heat damage.
Crews from Avoca, Duryea and Pittston Twp worked for close to an hour completing overhaul and picking up before being released by command. One civilian injury was reported with the patient being transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Main St Rectory Damaged by Flames
4.06.2014 - Crews responded Sunday afternoon to a working structure fire in the 300 block of Main St. Engine 126 (Germania) was first arriving, followed by Engine 112(Avoca). Both Engines hit hydrants, establishing primary and secondary water supply. Crews found heavy fire conditions to the rear of the two story home.
E126 stretched two lines to the rear, while E112 and Ladder 226 (Duryea) forced entry into the basement to control utilites and verify no fire conditions below.
As the balance of companies arrived, crews focused on ladders, ventilation, primary & secondary searches while also beginning overhaul and checking for extension. 1st alarm companies operated for close to two hours. No injuries were reported. The fire is now under investigation by the Pa State Police Fire Marshal and the Avoca Police Department.

Main St Fire Quickly Doused
3.20.2014 - A first alarm structure assignment was sent to the rear of 226 Main St last night for a reported structure fire. The Duryea Ladder & Engine 112 were first arriving and found a moderate smoke condition from the 2nd floor and eves of a two story home. Engine 112 established water supply and along with Engine 126, placed two handlines into service. The Ladder, along w Engine & Rescue 112 accessed the second floor to find a pile of debris burning on a bedroom floor. The fire was controlled with extinguishers. Checks for extension into the attic space proved negative.
A State Police Fire Marshall and Avoca Police will handle the follow up investigation.

Lost Truck Destroys Garage
3.6.2014 - The Rescue & Chief were requested by police on scene to assist with a collapse of a garage that was hit by a tractor trailer. Crews arrived to find no injuries on scene. The garage was a lean~to collapse with a vehicle inside. Crews requested the owners disable the power to the garage before checking for additional hazards. Crews remained on scene until the truck could safely be removed from the corner of the garage.

Rescue 112 Assists 166 wtih 2 Early Morning Runs
3.4.2014 - The Rescue & Chief responded shortly after 2am to assist Pittston Twp FD (166) with a working tractor trailer fire on Rt 315. Pittston Twp crews arrived to find a truck hauling lumber well involved with fire. First due companies established water supply and began hitting the fire. Engine 126 (Germania) would be tasked upon their arrival with working with 166 with two handlines. Rescue 112 along with Duryea Ladder 226 worked to complete the large amount of overhaul and off loading that was necessary to complete extinguishment. All companies operated for more than 2 hours in temperatures hovering near 0.
A few short hours later, Rescue 112 would again be called upon to assist 166 with an accident at Oak St & Rt 315. One vehicle was rolled over onto its driver's side with the lone occupant confined in the vehicle. 112 arrived to find stabilization already completed and the roof removal well underway by Rescue 166. 112 crews assisted with removing the roof as well as with patient packaging and removal.

Rescue Assists Taylor FD
2.16.2014 - Rescue Co 112 went at it again at another frigid weekend early morning fire. The Rescue Co was sent to assist Taylor Fire Dept on a working structure fire on Pond St. around 445 AM.
Taylor fire dept faced a heavy fire load when first arriving. Upon our arrival, the Rescue split into 2 groups as they came with 11 members total. The first group assisted Old Forge (93) with pulling ceilings to check for fire extension. Shortly after coming out of the building for a breather, the second 112 crew went in along with a crew from Scranton (50) and finished up the overhaul and gave the 2nd floor one last soaking with the handline. In addition to duties doing overhaul, the 112 crews would also check the D side exposure for extension and setup a pump to help wtih the water build up in the home's basement.
Sadly, the fire claimed the life of one occupant and injured three others. We extend our deepest condolences to the Taylor FD as well as the family of the victims.

Flames Destroy Pittston Home
2.8.2014 - The Rescue & Engine assisted Pittston City with a working fire on Stark St Saturday morning. City crews arrived to find heavy fire throughout the single family home. The primary hydrant was frozen, yielding no water to crews initially. Engine 148 (Jenkins) laid a second line to supply the ongoing operation.
Due to the extensive damage to the home, the fire was fought defensively. Crews battled not only the fire, but low temperatures and ice.

West Pittston Chimney Fire
1.8.2014 - The Rescue responded with West Pittston FD to a Luzerne Ave home Wednesday evening for a working chimney fire. Crews arrived to find fire burning within the chimney's flue. A search of all divisions and attic proved negative for extension.
Crews utilized chimney flares and dry chemical extinguishers to handle much of the fire. Crews then headed to the roof via the 184 Ladder to drop chains, which allowed much of the remaining burning debris to fall where interior crews could extinguish and remove. Crews operated for more than 2 hours to fully extinguish the fire before returning to service.

Fire in Moosic Heights
1.3.2014 - The Chief, Engine & Rescue all responded to assist Station 98 with a working fire in the Moosic Heights park. Engine 112 laid 800' of 5" to establish the water supply while the engine crew stretched Attack 2 through the 'A' side door. The Rescue crew would make their way into the interior as well to begin pulling ceilings.
Crews operated for nearly two hours in frigid temperatures before picking up. The home would receive extensive fire damage.

New Years Day Fire in Duryea
1.1.2014 - The Rescue & Engine responded to assist Duryea FD on New Years Day for a report of smoke filling up a home on Lackawanna Ave in the borough. Duryea Chief was first arriving and found smoke throughout the fire floor.
Crews found a working fire in the home's basement, which traveled up through the walls to the attic space. 112 crews assisted Duryea Ladder, being tasked with second due truck duties upon arrival. Crews operated on the first and second floors opening walls and assisting with overhaul.
